Nicaragua La Virgen COE #6 2018 was among the winners of Cup of Excellence in the Central American country with 89.55 points and was ranked number 6. Our coffee hunter Jordan Dabov was among the jurors who fell in love with this coffee.

Nicaragua La Virgen COE #6 2018 was cultivated in Finca La Virgen which belongs to the Huec Figueroa and Ponson Guier families. Together, they have been growing specialty coffee since 1995. This makes for more than twenty years of experience, tradition, and innovation!

#5 It is managed by a yet another strong woman

Gabriela Hueck is the professional who is behind this project. Always smiling and in a good mood, dispersing positive vibes around her. An incredible woman with huge energy, Gabriela has been producing for years some of the best coffees in Nicaragua. She believes the high ranking of their coffee in COE 2018 is a recognition of the hard work of searching the continuous improvement of La Virgen processes. “We’re looking of being better every day,” Gabriela told ACE. “The sixth place motivates us because the efforts of our entire team are rewarded.”

#6 Finca La Virgen stands for equality

In Finca La Virgen men and women are paid equaly. This gives women a sense of security and belonging. More so, women are engaged with work in the farm all year long. For the special microlot that won Cup of Excellence 2018’s 6th place, “we have trained over the years a group of pickers…mostly women that we choose to pick this particular coffees, who gets paid double the minimum wage and receives training to ensure they know the optimal ripening point of the cherry,” shares Gabriela.
