COFFEE BEANS GUATEMALA SAN MIGUEL – BIO

When visiting Guatemala for the first time, our coffee hunter, Jordan Dabov, was curious whether he would share the opinion of the industry’s experts that the coffee from this Central American country is one of the richest in aroma and variety of flavours. Luckily, his opinion was not only confirmed but also earned specific dimensions after Jordan met Dariusch Echeverria owner of Finca Santa Rita, San Miguel Region, department of Chimaltenango. It was found in the 1860s and Señor Echeverria is a fifth-generation coffee producer. Finca Santa Rita has embraced sustainability and their amazing coffees have a number of certificates - Organic Coffee, Rainforest Alliance, Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center's Birds Friendly Certificate. Today, coffee is grown in 20 of Guatemala’s 22 departments, with around 270,000 hectares planted under coffee, almost all of which (98%) is shade grown. The country’s production is almost exclusively Arabica and is most commonly prepared using the washed method, though natural and various semi-washed methods are gaining in popularity, with increasingly producing fine examples.
